Hubbard
and Fisher and capture the inaugural “Plateau Cup”!
Highlights from the
“2006 Plateau Life Open Tennis Championships”.
Who’s got game on “The
Plateau”? Over the weekend of July 29th & 30th,
players battled it out to capture the coveted first “Plateau Cup” and assume
bragging rights in their division.
In Mens Singles, local
talent Bill Hubbard won his finals match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bill Dow.
Hubbard’s all around elevated game proved too much for the young Skyline
tennis player with the solid ground strokes.
In Womens Singles, Jamie
Fischer won a hard fought, rain delayed match, 6-1, 6-3 over Rene’ Ahern.
Exceptional long rallies were constant in this match which stretched close
to 3 hours.
In Mixed Doubles, the
father and daughter team of Bill and Brooke Hubbard captured the title with
a 7-5, 6-3 win over Tiffany and Cameron Buck. In arguably the closest
finals match of the tourney, fierce net rallies were the norm and the
outcome rarely felt certain.
The weekend tourney,
organized by Plateaulife.com and hosted in Klahanie, is the first public
tennis tournament of its kind on “The Plateau”. Tournament director and
Plateaulife.com founder David Vaughan said “The community response was
great. We had an excellent group of players turn out for this first time
event. Everyone had fun and the competition level heated up pretty good
through the final rounds. We’ll do it again, and bigger, in 2007!”
